PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior pitcher John Nasshan (Niles, Ill./Niles West) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced Wednesday, after pitching eight scoreless innings in last week's victory at Lipscomb.
Nasshan limited Lipscomb to just two hits and tossed eight shutout innings in Bradley's 7-0 victory against the Bisons Friday. He combined with Elliot Ashbeck for the first road shutout by the Braves since a 4-0 win at Arkansas-Little Rock Feb. 25, 2011 and earned his victory of the year. A mathematics - secondary education major, Nasshan owns a 3.46 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Nasshan and the Braves are in Florida for Spring Break, where they will face Washington and Jefferson in Auburndale, Fla., at 2 p.m. (CDT) today before playing a three-game series against Dartmouth Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
