NASSAU, Bahamas - For the second time in as many games, free throw shooting proved to be the difference, but this time the line favored Bradley, at least late, as the Braves earned their first win of their preseason trip to the Bahamas with a 74-66 victory against Real Deal Shockers Tuesday night at Sir Kendal Isaacs Gym.
Senior guard Walt Lemon, Jr. once again paced the Braves with 18 points, while senior forward Tyshon Pickett finished with a double-double, 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Omari Grier also pumped in 14 points. Grier and Pickett each were 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to key a 15-for-17 effort by the Braves in the final period.
Sparked by seven consecutive points from Lemon, Bradley opened the game with an 11-0 outburst. Though the Braves never gave up the lead, a 10-man rotation of players who all saw double-digit minutes made it hard for Bradley to maintain a consistent effort. And while the Shockers shot just 16-for-56 from the field, 29 Bradley fouls allowed the hosts to remain close by making 30-of-46 free throw attempts.
In its first two games in the Bahamas, Bradley has been whistled for 64 personal fouls resulting in 99 free throw attempts by the two Bahamian pro teams. After an 8-for-18 effort in Monday's 77-74 loss to the Commonwealth Bank Giants, on Tuesday night the Braves earned their share of free throw attempts, finishing 26-for-39 from the line. Grier (8-for-8) and Pickett (6-for-6) combined to make all 14 of their attempts.
The Braves will play their third game in three days Wednesday, facing the PJ Stringers in a 8 p.m. (CT) tip.
