PEORIA, Ill. -- On the night Bradley celebrated Peoria's All-America City award, Peoria native Mason Alwan, a senior guard in his second year as a walk-on, scored a career-best 12 points, sparking the Braves (7-12, 2-4 MVC) to a 66-60 Missouri Valley Conference home win against Southern Illinois (6-13, 2-4 MVC) Friday night at Carver Arena.

As big as Alwan's four 3-point possessions - three 3-pointers and an old-fashioned 3-point play - were to Bradley's cause, junior forward Auston Barnes delivered the game's two biggest plays down the stretch, first drawing a charge and fifth foul on SIU leading scorer Desmar Jackson with 1:41 remaining, then draining a wing 3-pointer on the ensuing possession with 1:10 remaining for a 61-56 lead.

Jackson led all scorers with 17 points, while the Salukis also got 15 points from Anthony Beane and 13 from Sean O'Brien. Walt Lemon, Jr. led the Braves with 16 points and equalled his career-best with eight assists. Barnes added 12 points to the 12 from Alwan to complete the game's double-digit scoring.

Southern Illinois was just the second team to shoot at least 50 percent from the field against the Braves, finishing 23-of-41 (.561), but Bradley forced 14 turnovers and outscored the Salukis, 19-9, in points off turnovers to overcome the hot shooting by the visitors.

Bradley will play its first Valley return game of the season Wednesday when the Braves host Northern Iowa in a 7 p.m. game at Carver Arena. The popular magic act Quick Change will perform at halftime. Tickets for Bradley Basketball home games start at just $8 and may be purchased in advance at the Renaissance Coliseum Ticket Office, the Carver Arena Box Office, any TicketMaster outlet or online at BradleyBraves.com.
