Box Score PEORIA, Ill. - Bradley (6-9, 1-1 MVC) rode a 26-4 run over a span of 9-minutes, 43-seconds through the middle of the game to a 63-44 Missouri Valley Conference win against Southern Illinois (7-8, 0-2 MVC) Saturday night at Carver Arena.
The Braves won their sixth consecutive home game as Southern Illinois failed to make a 3-point field goal (0-14) nor had a player score in double figures. The Salukis became the first Bradley opponent with a trey since Chicago State went 0-for-9 from beyond the arc Nov. 26, 2005 and the first without a double-digit scorer since Loyola Chicago Feb. 22, 2014.
Omari Grier provided a spark off the bench with a pair of 3-pointers late in the first half to help launch the deciding run and shared game-high scoring honors with 14 points. Auston Barnes also scored 14, while freshman forward Josh Cunningham matched his career-high with 12 rebounds in his third consecutive double-digit rebound effort.
Southern Illinois guard Anthony Beane entered the game third in The Valley by averaging 18.6 ppg, but was held to eight points on 2-for-15 shooting from the field. Sean O'Brien led the Salukis with nine points.
Bradley held a 17-15 lead after Ibby Djimbe scored inside for Southern Illinois with 6:14 left in the first half. Grier answered with his first 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, then after SIU closed to 24-19 with 2:47 left, Grier hit his second trey as the Braves closed the half on a 9-0 run for a 33-19 lead at the break.
The Braves made it a 19-0 run by scoring the first 10 points of the second half with buckets from four different players for a 43-19 lead before Southern Illinois finally ended the run with a Deion Lavender inside hoop with 16:09 left. The 24-point deficit before Lavender's run-buster matched SIU's largest deficit of the season.
The Braves will return to action Wednesday by visiting #16 Wichita State in a 7 p.m. game, which will be shown locally on WAOE (my59). Bradley then will return home for consecutive Valley games Jan. 10 vs. Evansville (1 p.m.) and Jan. 13 against #23 Northern Iowa.
