ROCKFORD, IL - Eight Bradley women's tennis players combined for an 8-8 record during the opening day of the ITA Regional 2 event Friday at the Boylan Tennis Center.
The quartet of Ariel Dechter, Alejandra de Lasa, Ashley Thai and Irinka Toidze all completed the day with combined 2-1 records after completing two rounds of doubles play in two flights and one round of singles action in three flights.
The de Lasa/Thai tandem started the day with a tie-breaker win against the Northern Illinois pairing of Meghan Montgomerie/Evelyn Youel before dropping their second round match in the Doubles A Flight to the Wisconsin team of Caroline Hall/Nathalie Joanlanne. Decther and Toidze opened with a 6-4 loss to Hall/Joanlanne, before bouncing back with a 6-4 victory against Green Bay's top tournament entry.
The Braves experienced similar results in B Flight Doubles, where the Alexa Brandt/Malini Wijesinghe pairing opened with a 6-3 victory against Green Bay's Stephanie Londre and Maria Neff. The Bradley team dropped a tie-breaker decision in the second round, however, falling to the Northern Illinois duo of Abigail Dekkinga/Michelle Erasmus, 7-6 (7-4). Bradley's fourth doubles team, Linday Haight and Julie Martin, dropped each of its first two matches in B Flight Doubles Friday.
Friday's action concluded with a one round of singles play. In A Flight Singles, Dechter and de Lasa both grabbed victories. Dechter with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Green Bay's Olivia Headford and de Lasa with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win against Green Bay's Stephanie Londre.
Thai added a 7-5, 6-1 win against Green Bay's Samm Pedersen in B Flight Singles. In C Flight Singles, Irinka Toidze cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win against Green Bay's Noel Peck and Martin added a 6-4, 6-2 victory against NIU's Meghan Montgomerie.
Saturday's schedule calls for the third round of doubles play and two rounds of singles action.
