Bradley 5, at UNI 3
WATERLOO, IA - Junior Ariel Dechter clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles, securing a historic, 4-3 for Bradley Women's Tennis at Northern Iowa Sunday at Byrnes Tennis Center.
With the win, Bradley completed the regular-season with a 12-12 overall record and tied for fifth in the final Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 3-4 league record. Both the 12 overall wins and the three Valley victories are the most by Bradley since 1992-93 when the Braves finished 14-7 overall and 3-2 in The Valley. The three MVC wins equal the most in the 24 years of Missouri Valley Conference sponsorship of women's athletics. Based on its head-to-head win against sixth-seeded Missouri State, Bradley will be the No. 5 seed for next week's MVC Women's Tennis Championship and will face I-74 rival and fourth-seeded Illinois State in Friday's 11:30 a.m. quarterfinal match in Wichita.
Dechter and sophomore Aimee Manfredo combined for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles and the Braves clinched the doubles point when Alejandra de Lasa and Irinka Toidze teamed for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
While Manfredo and Malini Wijesinghe put the Braves on the cusp of winning the dual by earning straight-sets wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, UNI evened the match up by taking wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles.
The winningest player in Bradley history, Dechter finished off her 22nd singles win of the season to secure the team win for the Braves.
