Southern Illinois 6, at Bradley 1
PEORIA, IL - Sophomore Alejandra de Lasa earned a 3-set win at No. 2 singles, but that was the only point Bradley (9-10, 0-2 MVC) managed in a 6-1 Missouri Valley Conference women's tennis loss to Southern Illinois (11-9, 3-0 MVC) Saturday afternoon at the Clubs at River City.
The Salukis jumped out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches by identical, 6-3 scores. Southern Illinois went on to clinch the team victory by earning straight-sets wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5 singles. De Lasa put the Braves on the board with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles. Freshman Malini Wijesinghe won a first-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, but Polina Dozortseva rallied for a 3-set win to give the Salukis the day's final point.
Bradley will continue its 4-match home stand with a Sunday morning Valley dual against Evansville. Although scheduled for the outdoor courts at Bradley's David Markin Tennis Courts, weather is expected to force the 10 a.m. match indoors at the Clubs at River City.
