Bradley Softball Falls in Season Opener

PHOENIX, AZ - Bradley Softball played a tight seven innings in its 2017 season opener against Northern Colorado, but the Bears (1-0) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally for a 6-5 win in the opening game of the Grand Canyon Kickoff Tournament at GCU Softball Stadium.

Caitlyn McCarron and Maria Schroeder led Bradley's 12-hit attack by each going 3-for-4 with a run batted in.  Schroeder legged out two doubles and scored twice, while Stephanie Campos hit Bradley's first home run of the season. 

Freshman Emily Visnic worked the first 4.1 innings and held a 4-3 lead when she came out of the game after allowing a solo home run to Alex Sonoqui with one out in the fifth.  Visnic scattered four hits, walked one and struck out three in her collegiate debut.  Fellow freshman Emma Jackson (0-1) suffered the loss by allowing surrendering a walk and a go-ahead, 2-run home run to the two batters she faced.  Senior Jaelen Hull worked the final 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out five.

Bradley returns to action this evening with a 6 p.m. (CT) game versus host Grand Canyon.  The Braves will play the same two teams in reverse order Saturday, Grand Canyon at 3:30 p.m. and Northern Colorado at 6 o'clock, before closing out the opening weekend with a single game Sunday (10 a.m.) against Grand Canyon.
