Fairchild Delivers in 5-4 Win Wednesday

Zach Fairchild was 3-for-3 and drove in two runs, leading Bradley to a 5-4 win in 12 innings against Cornell College

AUBURNDALE, FL - Reserve catcher Zach Fairchild came off the bench to go 3-for-3 with two RBI's, including the game-winning hit in the 12th inning, lifting Bradley (5-9) to a 5-4 win against Cornell College Wednesday in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

After falling behind, 4-0, after two innings, five Bradley pitchers combined to hold Cornell scoreless over the final 10 innings.  After tossing an inning Tuesday night at UCF, Matthew Richey struck out six in four shutout innings to start the scoreless streak and Nathan Stong (W, 1-1) struck out two in a perfect 12th inning to earn the win.

Fairchild, who entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth, helped get the Braves to extra innings by driving in Andrew Ivelia with a 1-out single to right in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-4 tie.

Brandan Dougherty led off the 12th with a walk, took second on an Ivelia sacrifice and scored the walk-off run on Fairchild's 2-out single.

Now at 2-3 during the spring break trip through the South, Bradley returns to action Friday when the Braves open a 3-game, weekend series at North Florida.
