Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Freshman shortstop Luke Shadid was 2-for-5 with a 2-run single in the fourth inning and sophomore LHP Cole Cook worked 8.1 strong innings, leading Bradley (6-11) to a 4-2 win in the final game of a weekend series at North Florida (14-7) Sunday afternoon at Harmon Stadium.

Cook (4-0) was stellar in his first career start for the Braves after working the back end of the bullpen in his first six appearances.  The first-year transfer from Illinois Central College allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in his 8.1 innings.  He gave way to senior RHP Eric Scheuermann after allowing a 1-out walk in the ninth.  Scheuermann induced a pop out and a fielder's choice ground ball out from the two batters he faced to secure his first save of the season.

Bradley got the scoring started in the second inning:  Andrew Ivelia led off with a double, moved to third on a Jean-Francois Garon single and scored on Andy Shadid's sacrifice fly.

The Braves pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth on Luke Shadid's 2-out, bases-loaded single.  Luke Shadid helped generate some insurance in the seventh wiht a one-out single and a stolen base.  He then took third on a wild pitch and scored on Brendan Dougherty's sacrifice fly.

DOMINGUEZ DOZEN
Perhaps the most-significant plate appearance of the game resulted in a walk.  With two outs and runners at first and second base in the fourth inning, Bradley No. 9 hitter Christian Dominguez fouled off four consecutive full count pitches before drawing a walk on the 12th pitch of his plate appearance.  Luke Shadid followed with a 2-run single to push Bradley's lead to 3-0.

ROLE REVERSAL
Sunday starting pitcher Cole Cook had worked the back end of Bradley's bullpen in each of his first six appearances as a Brave, but after working 6.1 scoreless innings to finish the series finale last Sunday at Mercer, Cook was moved into the startnig role for today's series finale at North Florida.  Fifth-year senior RHP Eric Scheuermann had worked as the Sunday starter in the first four weekends of the season, but transitioned back into his previous reliever's role at UNF.  By recording the final two outs Sunday, Scheuermann earned his sixth career save, good for a four-way tie for seventh on Bradley's list for career saves.

KRISTAN ON BASE AGAIN
Junior C Ian Kristan singled in the first inning Sunday and finished 1-for-4 at the plate.  Although his team-best, 12-game hitting streak ended with an 0-for-2 showing Saturday, Kristan has reached base safely in all 16 games he has played this season and in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season.

UP NEXT
Bradley will close out its season-opening, 18-game road swing Wednesday when the Braves visit Iowa for a 4:05 p.m. game in Iowa City.  The first of six games this season against Big Ten Conference foes, Wednesday's game will be broadcast on BTN Plus.  The Braves will open their 2017 home schedule next weekend by hosting Robert Morris-Peoria Friday (6 p.m.), Robert Morris-Springfield Saturday (2 p.m.) and Eureka Sunday (2 p.m.) at Dozer Park.
