PEORIA, IL - The bottom three batters in the Bradley lineup combined to go 8-for-11 with four runs batted in and eight runs scored, leading the Braves (17-18, 3-4 MVC) to a 13-3 win versus I-74 rival Illinois State (10-26, 0-7 MVC) in seven innings to open their 3-game Missouri Valley Conference series Friday night at Dozer Park.

Sophomore RF Jean-Francois Garon was 3-for-3 with a double, home run and walk in his four plate appearances to pace Bradley's 14-hit attack.  After DH Derek Bangert hit a 3-run home run earlier in the first inning, his team-best 12th dinger of the season, Garon added a 2-run shot to cap Bradley's 6-run first inning against Redbirds starter Colton Johnson (L 1-3).

Freshman 3B Brendan Dougherty was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored hitting seventh in front of Garon, while sophomore CF Andy Shadid was 2-for-4 in his No. 9 spot in the order.  Shadid also made a diving catch in the fifth inning for his latest ESPN SportsCenter Top Plays nomination and scored the "walk-off" run by trotting home from third base on a wild pitch to invoke The Valley's 10-run rule after seven innings.

Senior RHP Nathan Stong (W 3-2) earned his second complete game of the season, limiting the visiting Redbirds to three runs on six hits.  Stong walked one and struck out six.  Johnson allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits in his 4.0 innings.

The Braves outhit Illinois State 14-6 as season batting leader Luke Mangieri also produced a multiple-hit game with a 2-for-4 showing.

The teams will continue their weekend series with a 2 p.m. start Saturday and a 1 o'clock start Sunday at Dozer Park.
