Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
PEORIA, IL – The Bradley baseball team lost the opening game of the final regular-season series of the season to Southern Illinois, 8-3. The Braves are now 19-29 and 5-14 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Salukis improve to 27-27 overall and 10-9 in league play.

The Salukis scored the first three runs of the game, plating one in the second, third and fourth innings. An error to start the second led to an unearned run for the 1-0 score before a pair of solo shots in the next two innings stretched the advantage to three.

The Braves would pull even in the fifth, however. Junior Ian Kristan led off the inning with a home run – his sixth of the season – to pull Bradley within two, 3-1. BU would then get a pair of one-out singles before sophomore Andy Shadid hit a two-RBI triple, squaring the contest at three.

The BU momentum would not last, however, as SIU immediately reclaimed its three-run advantage in the sixth. Three singles by the Salukis plus one Bradley error led to the three-run frame as SIU pulled ahead, 6-3. A triple with two runners on added a pair of runs in the eighth to extend the Southern Illinois lead to the final tally of 8-3.

Kristan led the Braves with a 3-for-3 day at the plate – adding a double, single and walk to his home run. Senior Evan Gruener also recorded multiple hits with a pair of singles on the day.

The Braves look to even the series tomorrow at Dozer Park with first pitched scheduled for 11:02 a.m.
