ST. LOUIS – Host Saint Louis made the most of two walks during a 3-run sixth inning and held on for a 3-2 non-conference baseball win against visiting Bradley (17-9) Wednesday night at the Billiken Sports Complex.

On a night Bradley's pitching staff struck out 11 Saint Louis batters, the Billikens (22-9) took advantage of the one opportunity the Braves gave them in the sixth.  Leadoff hitter Aaron Case drew a walk to open the sixth, but reliever Matthew Richey (L 1-2) was in position to get out of the inning unscathed after a sacrifice bunt and a fly out left Case at second base with two outs.  The next four Billikens all reached safely, however, on a triple, a walk and consecutive RBI singles.

Bradley got the scoring started in unusual fashion – with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning, Luke Mangieri roped a ball up the middle.  The ball struck the umpire, however, creating a dead ball situation that froze all of the runners after advancing just one base.

After Mangieri's base hit in the second, the Braves managed to go just 1-for-13 the rest of the night with runners in scoring position.  Bradley's only other hit with runners in scoring position was Andy Shadid's 2-out, RBI single in the eighth.

The Braves made one last run at the Billikens in the ninth when pinch hitter Nick McMurray and Luke Shadid hit consecutive 1-out singles, but SLU's sixth pitcher, Luke Sommerfeld, induced fly balls from Mangieri and Andrew Ivelia to close out the game.

Bradley, which has played only four home games to date this season, will remain on the road for a 3-game weekend series at Missouri Valley Conference rival Evansville.  All three games of the Evansville series will be broadcast on the new ESPN+ video streaming outlet.  ESPN+ will become available to consumers Thursday for $4.99 per month via the revamped ESPN app.
