EVANSVILLE, IN -
Freshman left fielder Eli Rawlinson accounted for five runs and three Bradley pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts against no walks as the Braves (18-9, 5-2 MVC) opened its Missouri Valley Conference series at Evansville (6-21, 0-4 MVC) with a 9-4 victory Friday night at Braun Stadium.

Rawlinson was 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and three runs batted in to highlight Bradley's offensive effort.  He got the scoring started with a bases-loaded, 2-run single in a 5-run second inning.  Rawlinson came around to score on Luke Shadid's single in the second, then added a RBI single in the fifth, before scoring the game's final run in the ninth.

Including Rawlinson's effort from the No. 8 spot, the final four hitters in the Bradley order combined to go 8-for-15 with four walks, a sacrifice bunt, five runs scored and six runs batted in.  Andy Shadid was 2-for-4 with the sacrifice and a 2-run double, Dan Bolt was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Keaton Rice was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and a RBI.

The offensive effort was more than enough support for Bradley's trio of pitchers.  Junior LHP Cole Cook scattered 10 hits in his 6.1 innings, allowing four runs.  Cook struck out six and did not walk a batter to earn his second straight win and improve to 4-3.  Brian Schrimmer retired both batters he faced to close out the seventh inning and Boby Johnson dominated the final six Evansville hitters to nail down the series-opening win.

The second game in the weekend series will start an hour early in effort to beat expected rain and is now slated for a 1 p.m. start Saturday at Braun Stadium.
