CARBONDALE, IL – Boby Johnson turned in a career-best performance on the mound, helping Bradley maintain its lead for a 5-3 victory in the resumption of the opening game of its Missouri Valley Conference series at Southern Illinois.

With the victory, Bradley (30-15, 11-8 MVC) secured its 30th win of the season for the second time in the last four seasons and the Braves locked up the No. 3 seed in the MVC Baseball Championship for the third time in four years.

Bradley held a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Thursday's series opener at Southern Illinois was suspended for the night due to storms.  Johnson (4-1) relieved starter Cole Cook when play resumed Friday and he went the distance to earn the victory.  The junior right-hander turned in a career-long 6.1 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out a career-best six hitters.

Andrew Ivelia finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.  He drew a one-out walk in the sixth inning and scored what proved to be the deciding run when J.F. Garon, Eli Rawlinson and Luke Shadid (RBI) all followed with walks.  Shadid reached on an error in the ninth and scored on Luke Mangieri's RBI single to plate an insurance run.

The teams are once again dealing with a suspended game as the second game of the series Friday was suspended in the fifth inning.  The teams are tied 1-1, but Southern Illinois has runners at first and second with one out and a 1-1 count on Nick Vasic in the bottom of the fifth.  The game is scheduled to resume a noon Saturday with the series finale to follow.
