Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. – Bradley Volleyball got defensive in a 25-15, 25-21, 27-25 sweep of Toledo Saturday to open the second day of the 2018 CEFCU Invitational with senior Yavianliz Rosado breaking her own school record for digs in a three-set match with 31.

The Braves collected 85 digs as a team to surpass the previous school mark for digs in a three-set match (84), which had stood since Nov. 2, 1988 (vs. Western Illinois).  In addition to Rosado's 31 digs topping her own school record of 27 set last year against Northern Iowa, Bradley received 23 digs (6 kills) from freshman Hannah Thompson as the Braves held Toledo to an .099 attack percentage.

Senior Erica Haslag highlighted the offensive efforts for the Braves with a match-high 18 kills.

Bradley (4-1 overall) jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set and never looked back, cruising to a 25-15 victory.  Hasalg pounded home six kills in each set, but had her most efficient frame in the first with six kills and no errors on 14 swings.

The second set had 11 ties and two lead changes before a late Bradley push.  A Toledo attack error broke a 21-21 tie and sparked a 4-0 spurt by the Braves to close the frame.  Thompson added a kill and sophomore Sara Maddox capped the 25-21 BU win with one of her eight kills on the day.

Toledo went out in front early in the third set (5-1), but Bradley rattled off seven consecutive point to take an 8-5 lead.  Haslag helped highlight the 7-0 run with a pair of kills.  The Braves led by as many as four points only to have the Rockets eventually claw back even at 23-23.  A Haslag kill put the Braves in front 24-23, but a Bradley error tied things again at 24-24.

After a Toledo attack error gave BU a 25-24 edge, the Rockets got a kill by Carly Townsend to tie it up at 25-25.  Junior Kathryn Graf broke the tie for the last time with a block and Thompson found the floor with a kill to complete the sweep, capping a 27-25 Bradley victory with third kill of the set.

Rosado tallied 19 digs in the third set, while Thompson notched nine of her own in the final frame.

The 2018 CEFCU Invitational continues at 1 p.m. with George Washington taking on Western Illinois.  The Leathernecks face Toledo in the 5 p.m. match and the tournament concludes with a 7 p.m. contest between Bradley and George Washington.
