Five members of the Bradley track teams earned an invitation to the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, announced on Thursday. Seniors Haran Dunderdale and Michael Ward, juniors Jake Hoffert and Scott Seymour and sophomore Alec Hartman all qualified for the first round of the NCAA Championship, which will be held at Sacramento State May 23-25.

Hartman and Seymour qualified for the NCAA Regional event in the 800m run. Hartman will make his second-straight appearance at the preliminary with a qualifying time of 1:49.98. An all-conference honoree, Hartman advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2018 and finished as the top freshman in the West Region with a school-record time of 1:49.72. Seymour earned his first invite to the preliminary with a qualifying time of 1:50.40.

Dunderdale is making his third appearance at the NCAA West Regional in the 3,000m steeplechase – also qualifying in 2017 and 2019. This season, the senior posted the 22nd-fastest time in the West (and 35th-quickest in the nation) with a mark of 8:50.95. A two-time all-conference honoree in the event, Dunderdale placed 26th in the steeplechase as a sophomore and 31st last season.

Hoffert and Ward are both set to compete in the 10,000m run next weekend. Hoffert, who collected all-conference honors in the event this year, also competed in the 10,000m during the 2017 season and while Ward is making his debut in the event at the West Preliminary, it marks the fourth time he has advanced to the regional (qualified in 1,500m and 5,000m in 2015, 2016 and 2017). The duo owns the two fastest times in school history as Ward posted a mark of 29:16.20 earlier in the year and Hoffert in 29:24.74.

Action at the NCAA West Preliminary begins on Thursday, May 23 with the first round of the 800m and the quarterfinals of the 10,000m. The Braves then wrap up the meet in California the following day with the 800m and 3,000m steeplechase quarterfinals. The top 12 runners from each event advance to the NCAA Championship June 5-8.
