BU Men & Kerry Gschwendtner Claim Season-Opening Titles

The Bradley cross country teams opened the 2019 season at the Western Illinois Early Bird Invite with the BU men and senior Kerry Gschwendtner both finishing first on Friday night.

The Bradley men finished with a perfect score of 15 points as the Braves claimed the top five finishers and six of the top eight. Gschwendtner ran the 6K course in 19:28.7, finishing more than five seconds ahead of teammate Nick Porter in second place at 19:34.0. Jack Franklin, Joey Simon and Evan Mitchell rounded out the top five at the meet with times of 19:37.2, 19:52.0 and 20:08.4, respectively.

The Bradley women placed second as a team as Northern Illinois took home the title with 16 points. Sophomore Emma Planck led the Braves by running the 4K course in 15:00.6 and placing seventh overall and was closely followed by redshirt freshman Grace Breitbach in eighth with a mark of 15:03.0. Ally Lampert, Kirstin Oakley and Arsinoe Del Real also scored for BU in 13th, 14th and 15th place, respectively.

The Braves are back in action on Friday, September 20, hosting the Bradley Intercollegiate at Detweiller Park, starting at 5 p.m.
