Soccer Battles Belmont to Draw in Season Opener

PEORIA, IL – The Bradley soccer team officially opened the 2019 season on Friday night, playing Belmont to a 0-0 draw in front of 1,233 fans at Shea Stadium. With the tie, the Braves extended their non-conference unbeaten streak to 15 games, dating back to the 2017 season.

The schools played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer but it was the Braves that had the better of the chances, especially in the second half and overtime. BU's best opportunity came in the 88th minute when Gerit Wintermeyer fired a shot from right outside the box. The Belmont goalie made the save by diving to his right with the ball heading in the direction of Roman Schindler. The BU senior nearly found the netting only for the goalie to poke it away and keep the contest scoreless.

Overall, Bradley finished the game with a 14-8 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 edge after the halftime break. Bradley also held a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal, marking the first time since 2014 against Denver that the Braves were not required to make a save.

Senior Nathan Wisbey earned his second collegiate shutout for the Braves in net.

Bradley is back in action next Friday, hosting IUPUI in the annual Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium.
