Jake Hoffert Named Valley Cross Country Athlete of the Week

After opening the 2019 season with a title at the Bradley Intercollegiate, senior Jake Hoffert was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Male Cross County Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Hoffert crossed the finish line in first place at Peoria's Detweiller Park, winning the individual title for the second time during his career. The senior clocked a time of 25:06.1 over the 8K course and finished 23 seconds ahead of the runner up on a hot and humid day. Also victorious as a sophomore in 2017, Hoffert became just the second runner in the 33 years of the Bradley Intercollegiate to win the individual crown on multiple occasions.

A three-time all-conference performer in cross country and the 2017 Valley champion, Hoffert also led Bradley to the team title on Friday. The Braves currently rank fifth in the Midwest Region and have won each of their two meets during the 2019 campaign.

Hoffert and the Braves are back in action on Friday, Oct. 4, competing at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational, beginning at 2 p.m. CT.
