Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
PEORIA, IL – The Bradley men's basketball fell in its 2021-22 home opener on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 76-64 decision to Howard. The Braves are now 0-2 on the season, while the Bison improves to 3-0.

Junior Malevy Leons led BU with 16 points – shooting 6-of-10 from the field. Sophomore Rienk Mast added his second double-double in as many games with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Terry Roberts and sophomore Jayson Kent each chipped in 11 points. Roberts and senior Mikey Howell also led the Braves with four assists apiece.

Howard got off to a strong start on the defensive end and used that to build an 11-0 lead before expanding the advantage to 16, 19-3. The Braves battled back and used a late 11-4 stretch to pull within seven points, 31-24, with just under a minute remaining in the period. However, the Bison scored the final four points of the half to head into the intermission with a double-digit lead at 35-24.

The Bison again used a strong start to the second frame and quickly pulled in front by 16, 46-30. The strong start prevented Bradley from pulling within single digits during the period as Howard earned the 76-64 victory.

The Braves shot 39.0 percent, while Howard made 52.0 percent of its field goals and 54.2 percent from 3-point range (13-24).

Bradley is back in action on Tuesday night, hosting Missouri S&T with tipoff set for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Mast is the first Brave with double-doubles in the first two games of the season since Marcellus Sommerville in 2003-04 … Kent has scored in double figures in both games this season after doing so only twice as a rookie … Kent also collected seven offensive rebounds – the most by a Brave since Elijah Childs had nine against Memphis on Dec. 3, 2019 … Senior Ja'Shon Henry missed the contest with a non-COVID related illness.
