Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Bradley men's basketball team lost its third-straight tight contest at the 2021 Paradise Jam, falling to Duquesne, 78-70, on Monday afternoon. The Braves are now 1-5 on the season, while the Dukes improve to 2-4.

Junior Terry Roberts led BU with 17 points on the afternoon, while senior Ja'Shon Henry and freshman Connor Hickman each chipped in 14 points apiece. Henry also added 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while graduate Mikey Howell led BU with four assists.

The Braves started the contest strong, scoring the first 10 points of the game. However, in a sign of things to come with the teams trading runs all day, the Dukes answered right back with 10 points of their own to square the contest up. Another 10-0 spurt by Duquesne later in the half turned a 20-17 deficit into a 27-20 advantage as the Dukes headed into the locker room leading by six at halftime, 31-25.

The Dukes carried their momentum into the second stanza and an early 8-0 stretch extended the lead to 14 points, 41-27. Duquesne led by as many as 16 points before Hickman spearheaded a comeback attempt by the Braves. The rookie sunk three triples in less than three minutes of action and ignited an 11-0 run by BU as the Braves turned a 57-42 deficit to just four points, 57-53, with over eight minutes remaining.

The Braves continued to fight until the end and pulled to within three with just under two minutes left, 67-64. However, Duquesne answered with a basket on the other end and then made 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to secure the 78-70 victory.

Bradley shot 40.6 percent on the day with an 8-of-19 performance from beyond the arc (42.1 percent). The Dukes, meanwhile, made 48.3 percent of their field goals, including a 6-of-14 day from 3-point range.

The Braves return to Peoria and are back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Maine at 2 p.m.

Game Notes: All three of Bradley's losses during the tournament were one-possession games in the final minute of play … Hickman has scored 25 points in his last two games after scoring 14 in his first four games combined … Henry has two double-doubles in five games this season – he had two in 83 games entering the year … The two schools were meeting for the first time since 1963 with the Dukes now holding a 6-2 advantage.
