NORMAL, IL – Three Bradley pitchers combined on a 2-hitter and sophomore 1B Connor O'Brien was 3-for-4 with three doubles and two runs batted in, as Bradley (1-2) salvaged the finale in its season-opening series against #30 Ball State (4-3) with a 6-0 win Saturday evening at The Corn Crib.

Junior LHP Brooks Gosswein (W, 1-0) set the tone on the mound for the Braves, blanking Ball State on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in his 7.0 innings.  Junior RHP Matt Hamilton retired the Cardinals in order in the eighth inning and redshirt junior RHP Theron Denlinger closed the door with a hitless ninth.

The Braves took advantage of early control issues from Ball State starter Ty Weatherly (L, 0-2), who walked three consecutive hitters with one out in the second to load the bases.  Tyler Ruetschle inherited the jam and walked in the game's first run with a 2-out free pass to freshman 2B Jackson Chatterton.

Senior slugger Dan Bolt drew a 1-out walk in the third inning and O'Brien chased him home with his first double of the day.  O'Brien took third on a Logan Delgado ground out and scored as Eli Rawlinson drew a walk on a ball-four wild pitch.

With Gosswein cruising, the Braves pushed the lead to 5-0 in the seventh on Bolt's 2-out, RBI single and O'Brien's third double.  A hit by pitch and three more walks from the Cardinals staff led to the final run in the eighth inning.

The Braves will return to action by visiting New Orleans for a 3-game series next weekend, beginning with a 6 p.m. game Friday at Maestri Field, named for Ron Maestri, former Bradley student-athlete and multi-sport coach turned Hall of Fame baseball coach and athletic director at New Orleans.
