MONTGOMERY, AL – Bradley senior RF Dan Bolt capped a perfect night with a thunder bolt, leading the Braves (4-3) to an 18-1 rout at Alabama State (2-9) in the opening game of a weekend series Friday night at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Bolt, the preseason Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, reached base safely in all of his seven plate appearances Friday night, capping his 4-for-4 effort with a 3-run home run in the ninth inning to cap the night's scoring.  Bolt's seven plate appearances Friday:  walk in the first inning, hit by pitch in the second, single in the fourth, RBI single in the fifth, walk in the sixth, single in the eighth, 3-run home run in the ninth.

But the Bradley slugger was hardly the only star on such a dominant night.  Freshman SS TJ Manteufel joined Bolt in the 4-hits club by going 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs, one of five Braves to drive in multiple runs.  Freshman CF Ryan Vogel was 3-for-6 with a walk, while sophomore 1B Connor O'Brien (2-for-6) and freshman 2B Jackson Chatterton (2-for-5) also legged out doubles in their multi-hit efforts.

The first of Bradley's four pitchers to toe the rubber Friday, junior RHP Dalton Mall (1-1) was credited with his first Braves win by allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts in his 4.2 IP.  None of the three relievers allowed a hit.  Freshman RHP Taylor Catton entered the game with the bases loaded in the fifth.  He got a fly out to end the inning and ended up retiring all seven Hornets batters he faced.  Freshman Kaden Krueger and sophomore Eli Campbell both allowed leadoff walks in their lone innings, but retired the next three batters in scoreless efforts.

The teams will resume their 3-game series with another 6 p.m. start Saturday at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.  Junior LHP Brooks Gosswein is expected to start on the bump for the Braves.
