MONTGOMERY, AL – A first-inning error opened the door to a 5-run Alabama State outburst and Bradley (5-4) was never able to climb out of the hole as the host Hornets (3-10) held on for a 9-8 win to salvage the finale of the 3-game weekend series Sunday at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Facing a 9-3 deficit after the seven innings, Bradley got one run back in the eighth and then pushed across four runs in the ninth before the Hornets finally put out the fire.  Eli Rawlinson started the ninth-inning scoring with a 2-run home run and after Carl Valk reached on a 2-out error, things really got interesting.

With runners at first and second, Brendan Dougherty and Ryan Vogel followed the error with consecutive RBI singles to right field to pull the Braves within one and bringing the dangerous Dan Bolt to the plate with runners on the corners.  Alexander Castro got Bolt to ground out to second base, however, to close out the game.

After Vogel and Connor O'Brien each doubled in the first inning for a quick, 1-0 lead, the Hornets came right back with five in the home half of the opening frame.  Jabronski Williams led off the bottom of the first with a fly ball to left field that resulted in a 3-base error.  Bradley starter Nick King (L 0-2) was on the verge of getting out of the inning unscathed when he responded with consecutive strikeouts, but the next three hitters reached on a walk, a RBI single and a hit by pitch before AJ Gardner launched a grand slam.

The Braves continued to put runners on base in an effort to get back into the game, but despite outhitting Alabama State, 11-7, and drawing nine walks, Bradley struggled to push runners across through the plate through the first six innings and the Braves ultimately left 13 runners on base in the game.

Vogel led Sunday's offensive effort for the Braves, going 4-for-6 with a double, two runs and two RBI's, while O'Brien was 2-for-5 with a pair of 2-baggers.

The Braves are scheduled to return to action with a 3-game series against Jackson State next weekend, but the series details are to be determined as Jackson, MS continues to deal with issues related to last month's severe winter storm.  A schedule update is expected by midweek.
