NEW ORLEANS – Veteran reliever Jed Moscot silenced the New Orleans bats with 5.2 innings of scoreless relief and freshman SS TJ Manteufel delivered a go-ahead, 3-run double in the seventh inning as Bradley (2-3) rallied for a 9-5 win against the host Privateers (5-5) Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

Junior LF Eli Rawlinson tacked on a 2-run home run in the eighth inning and RHP Theron Denlinger chipped in a perfect ninth inning to close out the win as the Braves evened the weekend series at one game apiece heading into Sunday's 11 a.m. series finale.

Reigning Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week Brooks Gosswein did not exhibit the same control as he showcased in his season debut last weekend against #30 Ball State, when he blanked the Cardinals on two hits with one walk in 7.0 innings.  Although he allowed only one hit Saturday, Gosswein racked up 72 pitches in 2.1 innings, surrendering five runs, two earned, with two walks and four hit batters.

The Privateers scored all five runs with two outs in the second inning.  Gosswein started the inning by issuing a walk and a hit by pitch, then responded with consecutive strikeouts.  But another hit by pitch loaded the bases, before Gaige Howard opened the scoring by delivering a 2-run single.  Another hit by pitch loaded the bases and all three runners came home when catcher Keaton Rice threw wild to first on a dribbler in front of the plate.

The Braves got one run back in the top of the third when Brendan Dougherty led off with a double, advanced to third on a Ryan Vogel sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch.

After Gosswein put two more runners on base in the third inning on a leadoff walk and one-out hit by pitch, Moscot entered and immediately took control by getting a pair of fly outs to end the inning.

Bradley stranded nine runners through the first six innings and came up scoreless in the sixth after loading the bases with one out, but the Braves finally broke through with a 6-run outburst in the seventh.

Dougherty, who finished 3-for-6 at the plate, led off the seventh with a single.  Vogel followed with a sharp single and Dan Bolt walked to load the bases with no outs.  Connor O'Brien made it 5-2 with a deep fly ball to left field.  Rawlinson walked to once again load the bases and the Braves avoided an inning-ending double play on a ground ball by Keaton Rice when the throw to first for the final out pulled the UNO first baseman off the bag.

After Vogel scored on Rice's fielder's choice grounder, Carson Husmann drew the third walk of the inning to load the bases for a third time.  Manteufel followed with a fly ball into the left center field gap, where the ball fell between the left fielder and center fielder as all three Bradley runners raced home for a 6-5 lead.  Manteufel scored the final run of the inning when the throw to first on a Jackson Chatterton slow roller to third sailed up the right field line.

Bolt scorched a line drive to right field with one out in the eighth inning and reached base when the Privateers right fielder dropped the ball.  Rawlinson made UNO pay one out later when he lofted a high fly that just cleared the wall in left center for his first home run of the year and the game's final runs.
