Game Recap: Baseball |
Peoria, IL – The Bradley baseball team split a doubleheader with Evansville on Sunday at Dozer Park, earning a 5-4 walk-off victory in the opener before the Purple Aces rallied for a 4-2 win in the finale. The Braves are now 9-13 on the season with a 3-4 mark in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Aces move to 18-12 overall and 3-4 versus league foes.

Senior Dan Bolt led the Braves to the 5-4 victory in the opener, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored on a pair of home runs, including a walk-off homer in the ninth. It marked the fifth two-home run game in Bolt's career (first this season), while also adding the fourth four-hit game of his senior campaign.

The Braves opened the scoring in the third inning when Brendan Dougherty's double drove in Carl Valk. Bolt then singled in Dougherty for the 2-0 advantage.

Evansville pulled one back in the fourth and then took the lead with a two-run fifth, scoring with a pair of two-out hits for the 3-2 edge. The lead, however, would be short-lived, as Bolt's fifth home run of the season in the bottom half of the inning put the home team back in front, 4-3.

The Aces would pull even in the seventh inning and had a chance to take the lead in the eighth only for Bolt to step up on the defensive end. With runners on first and second and with two outs, Evansville hit a single to right field only for Bolt to throw out the go-ahead run at the plate and keep the game deadlocked at four.

It all set up the senior's heroics in the ninth. After the first two Braves were retired, Bolt sent a 1-1 pitch over the right-field fence for the 5-4 walk-off victory. His second home run of the game also marked his team-leading sixth of the season.

Grant Jausel pitched a perfect ninth inning – needing only eight pitches to retire the Aces in order – and picked up his first career Division I win with the Braves.

Evansville quickly claimed the lead in the second contest, scoring via a sacrifice fly in the opening frame. The advantage for the Aces held until the fifth inning when TJ Manteufel hit his second home run of the season to draw the Braves even at one.

Bradley then claimed the lead one inning later. The Braves loaded the bases and Logan Delgado scored on a passed ball for a 2-1 BU advantage.

Evansville, however, would use a late rally to secure the win. The Aces took advantage of three walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball to go with a double in the eighth to score three runs and move in front, 4-2.

The Braves had their chances to pull even but left four runners on base in the final two innings, totaling 13 left on base for the game, as the Aces secured the doubleheader split.

Bradley is back in action next Friday, hosting Southern Illinois at 6 p.m. at Dozer Park for the first of four games.
