Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
Game 1:  Bradley 10, Missouri State 1 – 7 innings
Game 2:  Missouri State 4, Bradley 3

SPRINGFIELD, MO – The Nos. 3 and 4 hitters in Bradley's lineup, senior RF Dan Bolt and sophomore 1B Connor O'Brien – combined to reach base 15 times in 18 plate appearances on the day as the Braves (7-11, 1-2 MVC) left Hammons Field with a doubleheader split at Missouri State (10-9, 2-1 MVC) Friday.

Bradley won Saturday's 7-inning opener, 10-1, but saw Missouri State escape with a walk-off win, 4-3, in the 9-inning nightcap.  The teams will play the fourth and final game of the series at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Hammons Field.

Bolt and O'Brien each enjoyed a 4-for-4 performance Friday.  In the first game, Bolt was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.  He either scored or drove in a run in each of his four innings at the plate.  Meanwhile, O'Brien was 3-for-4 with a mammoth home run, two runs scored and four RBIs in the opener.

O'Brien went on to reach base safely in each of his five plate appearances in the night cap, going 4-for-4 with a walk and a double, giving him eight consecutive plate appearances reaching safely entering Saturday's series finale.  Bolt was 2-for-4 with a walk in his five plate appearances in the second game.  Combined for the day, the duo was 13-for-16 with two walks, two doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and six RBIs in their 18 plate appearances Friday.

The dynamic offensive performance of Bolt and O'Brien overshadowed what was perhaps a more significant stat for the Braves Friday: junior RHP Matt Hamilton tossed a 5-hitter to earn the 7-inning complete-game victory in the opener.  Hamilton improved to 2-0, using 97 pitches to give the staff a solo effort in the middle of a stretch of five games in five days.  He walked one and struck out three, allowing only one hit and two base runners after the second inning.

Both teams struggled to score their plethora of base runners in the nightcap.  Bradley outhit the Bears, 10-6, but left 12 runners on base.  Missouri State drew 11 walks and left 13 men on base, but the Bears got the clutch hits they needed late to rally.

After Bradley took a 3-1 lead with two runs on a botched double play attempt in the top of the seventh, the Bears drew even on a Jaden Rolffs 2-run home run in the bottom of the inning.  The Bears then worked Bradley's third pitcher, Grant Jausel, for two walks in the ninth before scoring the winning run on pinch-hitter Mason Hull's 2-out RBI single to left field.
