Game Recap: Baseball |
PEORIA, IL – Saint Louis jumped to an early lead and held off a late Bradley baseball rally in earning a 9-6 victory at Dozer Park on Saturday afternoon. The loss ends the Braves' four-game winning streak as BU is now 13-15 on the season, while the Billikens improve to 13-21 overall.

The Billikens got off to a strong start and scored five runs during the first three innings. Saint Louis took advantage of a single and double to start the game and scored two in the first. SLU followed with one in the second after an RBI single and then tallied two in the third with a two-out double.

Bradley got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Brendan Dougherty singled in Jackson Chatterton after a leadoff double. The Billikens reclaimed their five-run advantage in the fourth before Chatterton added a leadoff home run in the fifth for a 6-2 contest.

Saint Louis pushed across two more runs in the sixth for an 8-2 lead. Bradley, however, attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Five of the first six Braves safely reached base to start the inning – three singles and two walks – scoring two runs and loading the bases for Dougherty. The senior responded with a two-out single that added two more for an 8-6 score. However, the next Brave struck out and the Billikens would add an insurance run in the ninth for the 9-6 final tally.

Dougherty led the Braves with a 2-for-4 performance on the day, driving in three runs. Chatterton and Dan Bolt also added a pair of hits for the Braves.

The rubber series in the three-game series is set for tomorrow afternoon at Dozer Park with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
