Game Recap: Baseball | | Bobby Parker, Associate AD for Communications
SPRINGFIELD, MO – Completing its first 4-game series since 2004, Bradley Baseball drew a program, single-game record 17 walks and the Braves (8-11, 2-2 MVC) scored four runs on wild pitches on the way to a 10-7 victory against host Missouri State (10-10, 2-2) Saturday afternoon at Hammons Field to earn the Missouri Valley Conference series split.

Each of Bradley's nine starting hitters either drew at least one walk or was hit by a pitch as the Braves broke the single-game school record for free passes, previously set with 16 walks issued in a home game against Illinois Wesleyan May 2, 1939.  Dan Bolt was the biggest beneficiary of Missouri State pitching's wildness, equaling the school individual single-game record with four walks.  Bolt finished 1-for-2 with three runs scored and reached base 12 times in the final three games of the series:  7-for-10 with five walks in his final 15 series plate appearances.

The Braves scored their 10 runs on just six hits.  Jackson Chatterton was 2-for-4 with a RBI and Brendan Dougherty, who collected his 200th career hit in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.

Bradley's fourth inning summed up the day:  six runs on two hits, five walks, two hit-by-pitches and a wild pitch.  The outburst started with two outs and nobody on base after Jackson Chatterton, who started the inning with a single, was caught stealing.  Dougherty walked and Bolt singled before Connor O'Brien was hit in the head with a pitch to load the bases.  From there:  Carson Husmann (RBI) was hit by a pitch, Keaton Rice (RBI) walked, TJ Manteufel (RBI) walked, Eli Rawlinson (RBI) walked, Chatterton (RBI) walked and Manteufel scored on a wild pitch.

The Braves stretched their lead to 10-4 by scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, both on wild pitches with a runner at third base.

Entering in relief of starter Ryan Hodgett in the third inning, Taylor Catton (1-2) earned his first win of the year by tossing 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.

After playing 18 of its first 19 games away from home, Bradley will play its next 12 games at Dozer Park, beginning with a weekend Valley series against Evansville.  Game one in the series versus the Purple Aces is slated for 6 p.m. Friday night and all four games in the series will be broadcast on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ through The Valley on ESPN initiative.

NOTES:  Bradley outscored Missouri State, 27-17, in the series, but suffered walk-off losses in Thursday's series opener (5-4) and Friday's doubleheader nightcap (4-3).  The Braves won Saturday's DH opener, 10-1, before taking the series finale, 10-7 …. Connor O'Brien hit into a double play in his first AB Saturday to snap a streak of eight consecutive plate appearances reaching safely.  O'Brien walked and was hit by a pitch in his final two plate appearances, however, and reached safely in 10 of his final 12 plate appearances of the series:  7-for-9, two walks, one HBP … Brendan Dougherty was 2-for-4 and extended his on-base streak to 15 consecutive games, the longest active streak on the team.
