Junior Evan Mitchell highlighted day two of the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship for the Bradley track team, claiming the individual title in the 3,000m steeplechase Saturday.

Mitchell became the second Brave in school history to win the event at the conference meet – joining Haran Dunderdale in 2018 – crossing the finish line in 8:57.65. He finished nearly three seconds ahead of the runner up on the night as Mitchell posted the fourth-best time in school history to claim the title.

Sophomore Charlie Parrish joined Mitchell on the podium as he finished third in the event. Parrish shaved 11 seconds off his previous best time to post a time of 9:01.83. It marked the third-straight conference championship that Parrish earned All-Valley honors as he clocked the fifth-best mark in school history. Freshman Noah Costa also scored for the Braves in the steeplechase, placing seventh in 9:23.23 – the eighth-best time in the BU record book.

On the women's side, freshman Sophia McDonnell set a school record in the steeplechase to place fourth in the event. The rookie crossed the finish line in 10:22.78 to top the previous Bradley standard by nearly eight seconds. Junior McKenzie Altmayer also scored for BU by placing sixth in 10:43.86.

In addition to the steeplechase finals, seven Braves qualified out of their respective prelims on Saturday to advance to Sunday's finals. Bradley featured the top runner in all three heats in the women's 800m with Julia Nielsen (2:11.08), Wilma Nielsen (2:11.85) and Tiana LoStracco (2:12.03) qualifying for tomorrow's action. Sophomore Hannah Ivy also reached the final for the BU women in the 400m dash with a PR time of 55.79 – the second-best time in school history.

In the men's prelims, Bradley matched the performance of its women's team in the 800m run as three advanced to Sunday's finals – Scott Seymour (1:50.67), Max Dieterich (1:51.12) and Alec Hartman (1:51.55).

After two days of action, the Braves are currently fifth in the team standings with 32 points, while the women are ninth with 10 points.

The final day of the 2021 MVC Championship is set for Sunday afternoon with the action starting at 1 p.m.
