CARBONDALE, IL – During the regular-season series at Dozer Park, Bradley limited the top offense in the Missouri Valley Conference to eight runs in a 3-games-to-1 series victory against Southern Illinois.  The Salukis (39-18) apparently were saving up for the rematch in the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship, erupting for seven in runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 13-1 win against the third-seeded Braves (20-21) Wednesday night in the final game of the first round at Itchy Jones Stadium.

Forced to face the home team and one of the nation's top offenses in the first round, Bradley now must take on MVC regular-season champion Dallas Baptist in Thursday's 2:30 p.m. game at Itchy Jones Stadium.  While the Braves will be facing elimination against the Patriots, DBU opened its double-elimination tourney run with a 12-2 win in seven innings against Valparaiso Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman SS TJ Manteufel got the Braves out to a quick start against SiU ace Brad Harrison (9-0), launching his fifth home run of the year with one out in the bottom of the first.  Manteufel's homer was one of just four hits the Braves could muster against Harrison, who struck out 10.

The Salukis got the run back in the second inning on a Nick Neville leadoff homer and then took the lead for good with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.  Bradley starter Matt Hamilton (5-2) started the third inning with a strikeout, but a sharp ground ball off his left wrist began a string of seven consecutive SIU hits that broke the game open.  J.T. Weber's 3-run home run was the big blow of SIU's 7-run fourth inning.

The Salukis then got a RBI double and a Phillip Archer 3-run blast with two outs in the fifth to bring the MVC run rule (10 run difference after 7 innings) into play.

Before getting to that point, though, the game took a bizarre twist when fog enveloped the outfield and forced a delay with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.  After the umpires cleared the field for what became a 37-minute delay to allow the fog to thin, freshman LHP Kaden Kreuger needed just one pitch to finish off the scoreless half inning.

The fog began to build back up in the sixth inning with the Braves hitting three fly balls to the outfield and after SIU started the seventh with a single and a ground ball error, the density of the fog had increased to the point that the decision was made to end the game.
