PEORIA, IL – For the second day in a row, Bradley and Valparaiso split a Missouri Valley Conference baseball doubleheader at Dozer Park.  The Braves (16-17, 8-7 MVC) took game one of Saturday's twinbill, 3-2, but the Valparaiso Baseball Team (13-25, 8-12 MVC) bounced back for a 10-3 win in the night cap to earn a weekend series split.

The Braves got the scoring started in the opener in the second inning when junior LF Carl Valk opened the frame with a double, took third on a Jackson Chatterton single and scored on a Brendan Dougherty single up the middle.

Bradley pushed its lead to 3-0 in the two runs in the third with Valk again highlighting the inning.  Eli Rawlinson and Valk drew consecutive one-out walks to jump start the inning.  Ryan Vogel followed with a RBI single into right field, plating Rawlinson and sending Valk around to third.  Valk then scored on a wild pitch, even though the ball never made it out of the circle surrounding the home plate area.

Matt Hamilton (4-1) earned the win for the Braves after preventing Valparaiso from getting its first hit until two outs in the fifth inning.  Jed Moscot followed Hamilton's 5.0 innings with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief and Theron Denlinger got the final four outs, the last in unusual fashion, to earn his fourth save.

Steven Fitzsimmons drew a 2-out walk in the ninth, then advanced all the way to third on an errant pickoff throw to first base.  Representing the tying run, Fitzsimmons tried to score when Rawlinson sailed a pitch to the backstop, but the Bradley pitcher won the race to the plate as catcher Keaton Rice quickly pounced on the carom off the wall and threw back to the plate for the bang-bang out to end the game.

Valpo quickly jumped ahead in the night cap, building a 5-0 lead through the first three innings.  After the Braves pulled to within 5-3 with a 3-run uprising in the fourth, Valpo pulled away by answering with three in the sixth and tacking on two more in the seventh.

Fitzsimmons led the charge by going 3-for-6 with a RBI and three runs scored.  Connor Manthey (1-3, RBI), Logan Delgado (1-3, RBI) and pinch-hitter Kyle Antos (1-1) accounted for Bradley's three hits in the second game.  After going 3-for-5 in the first game, Dougherty saw his 16-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-3 showing in the second game.  He did draw a walk, however, extending his team-best on-base streak to 29 consecutive games.

Having completed the program's longest home stand, 14 games, since 1984, Bradley is scheduled to play its next four games, when they visit league-leading Dallas Baptist for a 4-game set next weekend.  Bradley will close out the regular season May 20-22 by hosting I-74 rival Illinois State at Dozer Park.
