ST. LOUIS – Excelling on the diamond and in the classroom, a trio of Bradley student-athletes landed on the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team, according to a vote of the league's eight baseball sports information directors announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.

A first-team all-conference performer on the diamond, senior 3B Brendan Dougherty (Clive, IA/Dowling Catholic HS) also earned MVC Scholar-Athlete first-team recognition.  Senior RHP Jed Moscot (Pacific Palisades, CA/Palisades Charter School) joined Dougherty on the 14-man MVC Scholar-Athlete first team, while junior LHP Brooks Gosswein (Barrington, IL/Barrington HS) earned honorable mention recognition.

The only four-time all-conference selection in Bradley Baseball history, Dougherty is a two-time Valley Baseball Scholar-Athlete after garnering honorable mention recognition during the abbreviated 2020 season.  Also a 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 honoree, Dougherty was Bradley's starting third baseman for the final 196 games of his career.  Having reached base safely in the final 38 games of the 2021 season, the longest on-base streak by a Bradley student-athlete in this millennium, Dougherty ranks fourth in Braves Baseball history with 236 career hits, sixth with 198 games started, ninth with 144 runs scored and ninth with 98 walks.

Majoring in sports communication and sporting a 3.90 cumulative grade point average, Dougherty received the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2018 and 2019.  He also qualified for the MVC Honor Roll in each of his five years and the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in nine semesters.

Moscot also joined Dougherty on the 2020 MVC Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team with honorable mention recognition.  A transfer from Cuesta Community College in California in 2018, Moscot pitched in a utility role throughout his three-year Bradley career, posting a 7-3 won-loss record with two saves in his 35 career appearances.  He was 3-2 with one save in 14 appearances in 2021.

Boasting a 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a history major, Moscot received the 2020 President's Council Academic Excellence Award, while qualifying for the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and the MVC Honor Roll in each of his three years at Bradley, as well as the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all of his six semesters.

Gosswein is Bradley's active leader in virtually every career pitching category, completing the 2021 season with 11 career wins, 167.1 innings pitched and 139 strikeouts.  Named to the Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week April 8, 2019, he earned MVC Pitcher-of-the-Week recognition March 1, 2021 by blanking #30 Ball State on just two hits in his 7.0 innings.  He added another shutout performance April 18 at Dozer Park by blanking the powerful Southern Illinois offense on just one hit over 8.0 innings.

Graduating last month with his business degree in accounting and a 3.86 cumulative GPA, Gosswein received the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2019 and 2020.  He has qualified for the MVC Honor Roll in each of his four years and the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all of his eight semesters.

The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.  Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic (COVID freshmen did qualify) and academic standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.

The trio of Bradley honorees emerged from a pool of 11 Braves who qualified for consideration based on their combined athletic and academic credentials.  Bradley's other eight nominees:  Taylor Catton, Theron Denlinger, Matt Hamilton, Troy Hickey, Connor O'Brien, Keaton Rice, Carl Valk and Ryan Vogel.
