Bradley senior third baseman Brendan Dougherty (Clive, IA/Dowling Catholic HS) is a repeat selection for the Academic All-District® 5 Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), according to the announcement of the district baseball teams in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA Thursday afternoon.

Already the only four-time All-Missouri Valley Conference performer on the field in Bradley Baseball history, Dougherty becomes the fifth player in program history to repeat as a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and advances to the NCAA Division I Academic All-America® ballot.

To be nominated for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must have completed one full calendar year at his institution while reaching at least sophomore athletic eligibility.  Nominees must participate in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions during the nominating year (10.0 innings pitched for baseball and softball pitchers).

The only student-athlete from the Missouri Valley Conference to land any of the league's three NCAA Division 1 Academic All-District® baseball teams, Dougherty completed the 2020-21 school year with a 3.90 cumulative grade point average in pursuit of his master's degree in business administration.  Sporting a 3.50 undergraduate GPA, Dougherty earned his bachelor's degree in communications (sports communication) in 2020.

After earning honorable mention All-MVC accolades at third base in each of his first three seasons, Dougherty was The Valley's all-conference first-team selection at the hot corner in 2021 after batting .323 and leading the team with 29 RBI and 58 runs produced.  The 2021 Bradley Varsity Club Most Outstanding Male Athlete, Dougherty ended the season by reaching base safely in the final 38 games for the longest on-base streak by a Brave since at least 1998.  He started all 42 games during the 2021 season, extending his national-leading streak of consecutive starts at third base to 196 games, dating back to his Freshman All-America season in 2017.

Dougherty, who also earned the Bradley Baseball Troy Guidotti Hustle Award this season, finishes his career ranked fourth in Braves history with 236 career base hits and ninth with 98 career walks.
