Tampa, Fla. – A three-run home run in the seventh inning was the difference in the Bradley baseball team's opener at South Florida on Friday as the Bulls prevailed, 6-3. Bradley is now 3-7 on the season, while South Florida improves to 9-5.
 
Junior Connor O'Brien and sophomore Ryan Vogel each led the Braves with a pair of hits, while Connor Manthey drove in a pair of runs for BU.
 
Bradley struck first in the contest, taking advantage of a lead-off double by Vogel when senior Keaton Rice drove him in with a double of his own for the 1-0 edge. The Bulls, however, were quickly able to pull even in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of four walks for the 1-1 contest.
 
South Florida then grabbed a 3-1 lead thanks to solo shots in the second and fifth innings before Bradley squared the game at three in the sixth. Carson Husmann and Jackson Chatterton collected back-to-back walks and then each advanced 90 feet after a groundout to first. Manthey then successfully pinch hit with a single to left that plated two, knotting the game at three.
 
The Bulls, however, had one final long shot in them as a three-run homer by Jackson Mayo secured the 6-3 victory for the home team.
 
Game two of the three-game series is set for tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. CT tipoff.
