Game Recap: Baseball |
Cookeville, Tenn. – Junior Connor O'Brien collected his first career five-hit game to lead the Bradley baseball team to an 8-7 victory at Tennessee Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Braves, who earned the series victory in their final road non-conference set of the season, improve to 7-12 on the year, while the Golden Eagles drop to 15-7 after their second loss in three games to the Braves.

O'Brien, who extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games, is the first Brave to tally five hits in a game since former teammate Luke Shadid did so in 2019 against UNLV. O'Brien's five hits came on one home run, one double and three singles as he also matched his career high with four RBI to go with two runs scored.

Sophomore Carson Husmann added three hits for BU, while junior Adam Brian and freshmen Peter Hansen and Cal McGinnis collected two-hit games.

Sophomore Taylor Catton improved to 2-1 in 2022 after pitching six innings of relief – allowing three runs and five hits, while striking out five Golden Eagles.

Tennessee Tech scored one run in each of the first three innings to grab the lead before the Braves made their push, starting in the fourth inning. O'Brien and Husmann followed a run-scoring error with doubles as Bradley plated four in the inning for a 4-3 advantage.

The Golden Eagles quickly knotted the game in their half of the fourth with a sacrifice fly before Bradley added three more runs in the fifth to claim the lead for good. Three singles from McGinnis, O'Brien and Hansen each drove one in for a 7-4 Braves advantage.

O'Brien then added a key insurance run and completed his five-hit day with a solo shot over the right-field fence to lead off the eighth inning as BU claimed an 8-4 edge. Tennessee Tech had one final push in them as two home runs scored three in the ninth but Catton was able to draw a foul out to secure the 8-7 victory and series win.

After playing their first 19 games away from Peoria, the Braves are now set to make their Dozer Park debut this week. Bradley welcomes Western Illinois to town for its home opener on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
