Carbondale, Ill. – The Bradley baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision at Southern Illinois on Friday night in the first game of the Missouri Valley Conference season for both schools. The Braves are now 7-13, while the Salukis improve to a league-best 19-7.

Senior Keaton Rice and sophomore Ryan Vogel both collected two hits for the Braves – accounting for four of the game's nine hits between the two schools.

Freshman Jacob Kisting took the hard-loss on the mound for BU despite another strong start. The rookie allowed two runs and just three hits in 6.2 innings of work, while striking out six batters.

The Salukis had a batter reach base safely in only three of eight innings on Friday but took advantage of their few opportunities. SIU grabbed the lead with a solo home run in the third before scoring on a bases-loaded walk in the sixth for the 2-0 edge.

Despite doubling the home team in hits (six to three) and having a baserunner in 7-of-9 innings, Bradley was unable to take advantage of its chances as only one baserunner advanced to scoring position. Bradley left six runners on during the game with Vogel being stranded on second in the eighth.

The schools are back in action tomorrow afternoon with game two slated to begin at 2 p.m.
