Game Recap: Baseball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley baseball team belted four home runs en route to a 10-4 victory over nationally-ranked Dallas Baptist on Thursday. The Braves improve to 10-17 on the season and 2-2 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the No. 16 Patriots slip to 22-11 and 3-1 versus league foes.

The Braves scored seven runs in the first two innings and never looked back as BU posted its largest win against the Patriots in 32 all-time meetings.

Freshmen Peter Hansen and Michael Mylott both matched their career highs with three RBI on the day to pace the Bradley offense, while the duo plus junior Connor O'Brien and sophomore Carson Husmann each fired one ball over the fence as Bradley matched its season high with four home runs.

Facing one of the Valley's top pitchers coming into the weekend, Bradley wasted no time scoring runs with six in the first inning. After Ryan Vogel and O'Brien both reached base to lead off the game, senior Keaton Rice put BU in front for good with an RBI double. Bradley then added two more runs via an error and an RBI single from Mylott before Hansen hit his first career home run over the left field fence – a three-run shot – for a 6-0 ball game.

The Braves then added to their lead when O'Brien sent the first pitch he saw over the left-center fence for his team-leading sixth home run of the season and a 7-0 advantage.

Dallas Baptist fought back to within three runs – scoring two in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth – before Bradley again picked up its offense to pad its lead. Mylott hit his third home run of the season – a two-run shot – in the bottom half of the sixth for a 9-4 Bradley lead. Husmann then added a fourth BU home run in the seventh – matching O'Brien with his team-leading sixth homer – to finish off the 10-4 victory.

Freshman Jacob Kisting pitched 6.0 innings to earn his team-leading fifth win of the season for BU – the most by a true freshman at Bradley since Brad Altbach in 2007 and the most by a freshman starter since Collin Walker in 2003. Sophomore Taylor Catton earned his second save of the season after pitching 3.0 scoreless innings in relief.

Game two of the three-game series against No. 16 Dallas Baptist is set for Friday. First pitch at Dozer Park is set for 11 a.m.
