Bradley Baseball Drops Midweek Game at Iowa

Iowa City, Iowa – The Bradley baseball team lost to Iowa on Tuesday, 15-8, in a non-conference matchup. The Braves are now 11-19 during the 2022 season, while the Hawkeyes improve to 21-12.
 
Junior Connor Manthey led BU with two hits and three RBI, while freshman Cal McGinnis also drove in two runs for Bradley.
 
After Iowa scored via an error in the bottom of the first, McGinnis gave BU a 2-1 lead in the second – hitting the first triple of his career to drive in two runners. Manthey then extended the BU advantage in the third inning when he hit a two-out RBI single.
 
The Hawkeyes, however, would take advantage of the long ball to move back in front. After an early double in the bottom of the third scored one, Iowa connected on a three-run homer for a 5-3 lead. The Hawkeyes then extended their edge with a solo shot in the fourth for a three-run advantage, 6-3.
 
Bradley pulled two back in the fifth when Manthey delivered for a second time with two outs – plating two on a single for a 6-5 contest. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly in the fifth and sixth innings would put Iowa back in front by three before BU took advantage of a wild pitch of its own in the seventh for an 8-6 contest. Iowa, however, would break open the game in the bottom half of the inning – taking advantage of two errors in the frame to score six runs (only two earned) en route to the 15-7 victory.
 
The Braves, who are 3-3 in Missouri Valley Conference action, return to league play this weekend with a contest against I-74 rival Illinois State. The three-game series is set to begin on Friday with a 5 p.m. first pitch.
