Game Recap: Baseball |
Carbondale, Ill. – After rallying with two runs in the top of the ninth inning, Bradley allowed two unearned runs behind a pair of errors in the bottom half as Southern Illinois earned a 6-5 win on Saturday afternoon. The Braves are now 7-14 on the season and 0-2 in Missouri Valley play, while the Salukis improve to 20-7 and 2-0 versus league foes.

Sophomore Ryan Vogel led the Braves with three hits on the day, while freshman Jack Lincoln added a pair with two RBI.

The Salukis struck first in the contest with a sacrifice fly in the third inning with the Braves answering immediately in the fourth. A one-out single from Lincoln scored Connor Manthey as Bradley tied the game at one. Southern Illinois, however, went back in front in the fifth inning with a solo home run.

Bradley once again tied the game in the sixth when Lincoln's second RBI of the day drove in Carson Husmann. The Salukis once again replied though, scoring two in their half of the inning. SIU scored one with a one-out double before adding a second with a bases-loaded groundout for the 4-2 advantage.

The Braves pulled one back in the seventh when Vogel hit his first home run of the season. Vogel and Connor O'Brien then both reached base to start the ninth. After a sacrifice bunt advanced the duo by 90 feet, Vogel scored on a passed ball. Husmann then put Bradley in front with a sacrifice fly and a 5-4 BU lead.

Southern Illinois, however, responded in the ninth, taking advantage of a one-out error that led to a sacrifice fly before one additional miscue with two outs led to the 6-5 victory for the home team.

The schools are set to wrap up the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
