Game Recap: Baseball |
Normal, Ill. – Freshman Jacob Kisting pitched seven scoreless innings and the Bradley baseball team received timely hitting in the late innings to earn a 3-1 victory over I-74 rival Illinois State on Friday night. With the win, the Braves improve to 12-19 overall and 4-3 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Redbirds drop to 14-18 and 2-5 in league play.

Kisting earned his team-leading sixth win on the mound behind seven scoreless innings – allowing just two hits, while striking out six. It marked the first time in the rookie's career that he did not allow a run as Illinois State was only able to advance two runners into scoring position, stranding both on second base in the second and fourth innings.

With Kisting on the mound, Bradley received the only runs it needed in the seventh and eighth innings. Jackson Chatterton led off the seventh with a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a fly out. Freshman Jack Lincoln then drove in the go-ahead run with a single up the middle for the 1-0 score.

In the eighth inning, Keaton Rice hit a one-out double before Carson Husmann sent a bomb over the leftfield fence for his team-leading eighth home run (and third in the last four games). Illinois State got one run back in the bottom of the eighth but Taylor Catton pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the ninth for his third save of the season, securing the 3-1 Bradley victory.

Game two of the three-game series is set for tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. first pitch.
