Game Recap: Baseball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley baseball team dropped a 9-6 contest to Illinois at Dozer Park on Wednesday night. The Braves are now 13-21 on the season, while the Fighting Illini improve to 21-17.

Sophomore Carson Husmann led the Braves with a pair of hits on the night to go with three RBI. Junior Connor O'Brien reached base safely three times – one hit and two walks – and led BU with two runs scored.

Bradley grabbed the early lead in the game thanks to two runs in the first two innings. Back-to-back singles from Husmann and Peter Hansen put the Braves in front, 2-0, after the opening frame. After a solo shot in the top of the second for Illinois, Bradley reclaimed its two-run lead via a run-scoring wild pitch for the 3-1 tally through two.

Illinois, however, would eventually move in front with a combined six runs in the fifth and sixth innings. After three-straight soft singles with one out in the fifth, the Illini were able to take advantage with a walk and a wild pitch to square the contest at three. The visitors then moved in front in the sixth with two more bases-loaded walks before a single and a fielder's choice resulted in a four-run inning for a 7-3 lead.

Bradley pulled within a run after scoring three times in the seventh. Back-to-back singles from O'Brien and Keaton Rice resulted in two runs after a Husmann triple – the first of his career – before the sophomore scored himself when an error kept the inning alive. Illinois, however, would add two insurance runs in the eighth with a two-out single and held off the Braves for the 9-6 victory.

The Braves return to Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend with a three-game road series at Evansville. The teams open the set on Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
