CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Bradley cross country teams ran rampant at the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Championships, winning both the men's and women's team titles in Cedar Falls on Friday. This is the first time a team has swept the MVC team titles since Bradley swept them in 2022 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The women's team began a day to remember for Bradley, winning the 6K team title with 42 points, 24 points over second-place Indiana State. Junior
Kaitlyn Sheppard paced the Braves with a third-place finish, while
Nadia Potgieter finished seventh.
Abigail Hancock placed ninth and
Anna Perry finished in 10th.
Sophia Cino rounded out the top five Brave finishers with a 13th place finish. Sheppard, Potgieter, Hancock and Perry all earned All-MVC honors for finishing in the top 10, while Cino won MVC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year for being the highest-finishing freshman, plus All-MVC Honorable Mention recognition for finishing in the top 15.
The men's team continued the consistency of the women's team, winning the 8K team title with 42 points, just nine points over second-place Illinois State. Sophomore
Jayde Rosslee finished third, his second finish in the top 10 in his two career MVC Championship races.
Michael Rebello and
Jack Crull finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively, while
Caleb Lind and
Caden Simone took 13th and 15th. Rosslee, Rebello and Crull earned All-MVC honors for their top 10 finishes, while Lind and Simone were All-MVC Honorable Mentions for a top 15 finish.
Travis Gaffney won MVC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year for being the highest-finishing freshman, finishing in 30th.
A fast course at Northern Iowa resulted in lots of movement throughout the Bradley Cross Country Record Book, as eight new personal bests moved into the top 10 times in Bradley history in the women's 6K and men's 8K events. In the women's 6K discipline, Sheppard (fifth-fastest, 20:27.2), Hancock (eighth, 20:37.5) and Perry (ninth, 20:39.2) set new personal bests to etch their names in the record book. In the men's 8K discipline, Rosslee set a new program record for the second time in four weeks, running a 23:25.0. Rebello (23:34.4) and Crull (23:36.8)ran career-best races for the second- and third-best times in program history. Lind (seventh, 23:53.1) and Simone (eighth, 23:56.0) also set new career bests and top program times.
