Springer joined the Bradley program after two years at UAB in student affairs. Springer also worked as a replay operator at the SEC headquarters in Birmingham during his tenure at Alabama, while serving as an assistant and interim head coach at Lawson State Community College.

Prior to his time at UAB, Springer worked 10 years in various roles from head coach to Athletic Director at a number of colleges. He spent the 2016-17 season on the staff at Northern Illinois University as the program’s Assistant Director of Basketball Operations and also five years as a head coach at two Illinois junior colleges.

During his time at Rock Valley College (2010-12) and Kankakee Community College (2012-15), Springer averaged 19 wins per season. Named the NJCAA Region IV Coach of the Year during his tenure at Kankakee, Springer led the Cavaliers to back-to-back regular-season titles and the 2015 Region IV Tournament Championship. He also served as the department’s Academic Success Coordinator, providing academic support services for more than 130 student-athletes. Overall, Springer coached six NJCAA All-Americans during his five years as a head coach, as well as 11 all-region honorees and four all-conference players.

Springer was also an assistant coach at Jackson State during the 2009-10 campaign. He helped lead the Tigers to a regular-season SWAC title and an appearance in the NIT after posting a 17-1 record.

On the administrative side, the Chicago native served as the Director of Athletics and Recreation in his home town at Malcolm X College during the 2015-16 academic year, leading a department of eight programs. He received his start at the college level in 2007 as the Director of Campus Recreation and men’s basketball assistant coach at Division III Alma College.

Springer earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois in recreation administration in 2005. He also has master’s degrees in athletic administration from Central Michigan and in health, physical education and recreation from Jackson State, while earning his doctorate of education from Northern Illinois in 2019.
