High School | St. John's Jesuit
While attending St. John's Jesuit in Toledo, Ohio, Race was a force on the high school basketball scene. He finished his career ranked seventh all-time in scoring in school history and earned First-Team All-Catholic Central Conference honors three times, First-Team All-District honors three times, and 2026 District Player of the Year recognition. He was also named First-Team All-Ohio in 2026 after earning Second-Team All-Ohio honors in 2025.

Personal
Originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, John “Race” Kowalczyk is the son of Todd and Julie Kowalczyk and has one sibling, Rose. Race hopes to one day become a college basketball coach like his father, who is currently the head coach of the Toledo Rockets. His basketball family tree extends even further, as he is related to Kon Knueppel of the Charlotte Hornets (Duke 2025), Jeff Nordgaard (Green Bay, 1992–96), who played for the Milwaukee Bucks in 1996, his father, Tod Kowalczyk (UM-Duluth, 1984–88), and Chari Nordgaard Knueppel (Green Bay, 1995–99).

Race enjoys fishing, collecting vinyl records and shoes, boating, and wake surfing. He plans to major in business while attending Bradley.
