St. Louis, Mo., native Matt Huskey joined the Bradley volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach in January 2013 and is in his third season on The Hilltop.
Huskey had an immediate impact on the Braves, with the former libero helping Bradley post its highest digs-per-set average (17.06) since 2006. The 2013 season saw Lauren Zerante post the second-best season dig total in school history (543), second only to Stacy Besjak’s school record 606 digs.
With a solid back line, Bradley finished the 2013 season with its highest overall (13) and conference (7) win totals since 2005 and earned a spot in the Valley Tournament for the first time since that same season. The Braves finished the year with the most road and neutral site victories (7) since 2004.
Bradley boasted its first all-conference selection since 2006, with Amy Angelos garnering second-team all-league honors. In addition, Rachel Jones capped off a successful 2013 campaign on the MVC’s All-Freshman Team to become the first Brave on the Valley’s All-Newcomer squad since Lindsay Stalzer.
A 2008 Missouri graduate with a degree in business administration, Huskey was a volunteer assistant coach at Georgia the two years (2011 & 2012) prior to arriving on The Hilltop and served as assistant coach at Florida Atlantic for the two years prior (2009 & 2010) to his stint in Athens, Ga.
While at Georgia, Huskey helped the Bulldogs to an improved conference record each of his two years and assisted with scouting in addition to serving the squad's video coordinator. In 2012, he helped mentor freshman Jasmine Eatmon, who earned a spot on the SEC all-freshman team.
After graduating from Missouri in 2008, Huskey served as assistant coach and oversaw recruiting efforts at Florida Atlantic during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He worked primarily with the squad's outside hitters and liberos while in Boca Raton, Fla., in addition to serving as FAU's camp coordinator.
During his collegiate days, Huskey helped the Missouri men's club team to the Division I-AA National Championship in 2006. He was the libero on a state championship team as a junior at St. Louis High School and played eight years of club volleyball at St. Louis CYC, where he later served as an assistant coach.
While an assistant coach with St. Louis CYC, Huskey helped mentor five NCAA Division I volleyball players. He also served as head coach for the junior varsity team at Nerinx Hall High School for one season prior to coaching in the collegiate ranks.
