Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- Junior Lindsay Stalzer dominated play, tallying 17 kills and five blocks as she helped the Bradley volleyball team end a seven-match losing skid with a three games to none victory at Illinois-Chicago Monday. The Braves (6-12 overall) posted their first three-game sweep of the season, winning 30-19, 30-25, 30-26. The Braves tied a season-high with 13 kills and limited Illinois-Chicago to a .010 hitting percentage for the match. The Flames had 13 hitting errors compared to just 16 for Bradley.
Stalzer recorded six kills and three blocks in the first game while freshman Nikki Pierzchala had three kills and three aces in the Braves 30-19 victory in the opener. Bradley hit .296 in game one compared to .040 for the Flames who fell to 5-15 on the year.
The Braves rallied from a six-point deficit in game two to pull out a 30-25 victory. UIC led 16-10, before the Braves closed out the game with a 20-9 run. The Flames fell apart down the stretch, committing 12 errors during Bradley's run. Stalzer and Pierzchala both had three kills during the Braves 20-9 run as Bradley totalled eight kills during the run.
Bradley had to rally again in game three, trailing 15-9 before rallying to win game three 30-26. Stalzer had six kills and one block assist during the comeback, while sophomore Jasmine Kinslow added a kill and three block assists. The Braves had four blocks in the closing run with sophomore Amy McFarland adding three block assists.
Stalzer had a match-high 17 kills and hit .609 for the night, finishing with 17 kills and three hitting errors on 23 attacks. Pierzchala added eight kills and a team-best three service aces. Kinslow played just one game in the match both tallied three kills and three block assists.
“This was a very good match for us,” head coach Scott Luster said. “In addition to picking up the victory, we were able to get everyone some time on the floor and it should help with our depth down the stretch. Lindsay (Stalzer) dominated the match again and we got good contributions from Nikki (Pierzchala) and Jasmine (Kinslow).”
The Braves played their second consecutive match without starting setter Ashley Vance due to an injury. Freshman Eileen Hillary finished with 35 assists, one ace, and three block assists filling in for the injured Vance.
Bradley opens a four-match homestand Friday against Missouri Valley Conference foe Creighton. First serve for Friday's match between the Braves and Bluejays is slated for 7 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
