Braves Down South Florida In Four At Panther Invite

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Three individuals had double-digit kill totals and sophomore Amy McFarland had a season-high seven blocks as the Bradley Volleyball team won its third match in four outings with a three games to one victory over South Florida at the Panther Invitational in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Saturday morning.

Game scores in favor of the Braves (4-5 overall) were 30-25, 24-30, 30-27, 30-25. Junior Lindsay Stalzer had a team-high 16 kills and added six blocks to pace the Braves. Stalzer moved from 16th on Bradley's career kills list into a tie for 14th with Mary Kay Schmidt at 849 career kills. Stalzer passed former teammate Ann Franklin, who ranked 15th in program history with 836 kills.

Junior Briony Hammet nearly had a double-double finishing with 13 kills and nine digs. Hammet reached a milestone of her own, posting her 500th career kill during the match. Sophomore Amber DeBroux added 12 kills and hit at .304 clip to help highlight the Braves offensive efforts. Ashley Vance totalled three kills, 52 assists and eight digs as Bradley hit .230 as a team.

McFarland posted a team season-high seven blocks (two solo, five assists) as Bradley had a season high 13 blocks. Sophomore Kelly Niemeyer, who missed most of the first two weeks of the season due to injury, made her second appearance of the year, finishing with seven kills and tying a career-high with 12 digs.

South Florida (2-5 overall) was led by Kristina Fabris' 18 kills. Michelle Stalbaum added 16 kills. The Bulls held a 59-53 edge in digs, but the Braves owned a 13-6 advantage in blocks during the match and hit .230 compared to .215 for South Florida.

Bradley closes out play a the Panther Invitational Saturday afternoon against instate foe Northern Illinois. The Braves and Huskies square off at 5 p.m. at the West Gym in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
