Box Score MARTIN, Tenn. -- Bradley junior right-hander Michael Christl tossed six scoreless innings and the Braves (2-1) erupted for eight runs in the third inning on the way to a 14-6 non-conference baseball victory at Tennessee-Martin (1-5) Sunday afternoon.
Christl began his career as a starter, then moved to the bullpen last season as the team's top closer. He has returned to his starting slot to open the season and allowed only two singles in his 6.0 innings of work in his 2006 debut Sunday, walking three and striking out six.
Christl got all of the offensive support he needed as the Braves rallied for the game's first eight runs with two outs in the top of the third inning. Colby Luttrell led off the third with a single and eventually scored when Ryan Curry reached on an error. After Paul Rice was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Bradley rapped out five consecutive hits, including another single by Luttrell and a 2-run triple by catcher Ryan Eigsti to cap the outburst.
After scoring three unearned runs in its final at-bat of Saturday's double-header to pull out a 4-3 win, Tennessee-Martin scored six unearned runs in the ninth Sunday off Bradley's fourth pitcher of the day, freshman Bryan Porter.
Both teams finished with eight hits Sunday, but Bradley also benefitted from eight bases on balls and six Skyhawk errors. First baseman John Lequia had a 2-run single during the third inning outburst and shortstop Dan Brewer finished with two runs batted in, including one on the team's only extra-base hit of the day, a fifth-inning double. Eigsti added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to lead the team with three runs batted in.
Bradley will visit Saint Louis for a single-game Tuesday at 2 p.m., then will return to the Volunteer State next weekend for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday at Belmont.
